National Comparative Exam in Czech Republic

National Comparative Exams or NCE (In Czech: "Narodni srovnavaci zkousky; NSZ") are certified exams used by many Czech higher education institutions for accepting students. The NCE is a part of the universities and colleges entrance exams. The National Comparative Exam is owned and administered by the private company – Scio.  About 30,000-40,000 candidates sit for this exam every year in the Czech and Slovak universities. There are different modules of the exam:
  • English Language 
  • German Language 
  • French Language
  • Spanish Language
  • Mathematics
  • Natural Sciences: subtests of chemistry, biology, and physics 
  • Social Sciences
  • Test of General Academic Prerequisites (GAP)
Students can appear for any of the above mentioned modules. Most of the institutions accept the Test of General Academic Prerequisites (GAP) certificate. A percentile ranging between 50 and 90, which varies between faculties is accepted.

The tests are administered in Czech or Slovak about 6 times in a year. The exam is used by more than 50 faculties or university departments and other institutions.  
  • Faculties:  Engineering, Law, Social Sciences, Architecture, or Economy.

General Academic Prerequisites Test (GAP)

The Test of General Academic Prerequisites is the most accepted and an important module of the National Comparative Exams (NCE). This module focuses on the candidate’s ability and potential to learn. It determines the capability, potentiality, ability and skills of the candidates and whether he/she can successfully study at university. The test determines the understanding ability and other capabilities which directly shape the learning process. Following skills and abilities are tested:
  • Verbal section: understanding and interpretation of the long texts, relationships within text, differentiating meanings, vocabulary, and reaching to the appropriate conclusion
  • Analytical section: logical reasoning, objective analysis and evaluation, analyzing data and inference
  • Quantitative section: working with numbers, charts, spreadsheets, values, an tests the basic mathematical skills
